Not really words you would expect to hear come from the mouths of a young couple. We honestly do love it though! We take out all the seats in the back of our van and create a comfortable bed with lots of blankets and pillows. You could say its a form of glamping.
Lindeman Lake is a small glacier lake in Chilliwack, BC. It has become a popular day hiking spot due to the fact its only 1.7km to reach the lake from the parking lot, making it a short hike in. We decided to head out on July 1st, Canada Day. Knowing that we may be in for a busy hike, we left early in the am.
Homemade candles are super easy to make and quite a fun little activity. Candles are an extremely popular Christmas gift. This year, instead of dropping too much money at Bath and Body Works or elsewhere, why not try making your own?
When I have gone long enough without being outdoors, I start to crave it. I can almost taste the fresh pine in my mouth I miss it so bad. It is only so long before I must go. Not necessarily for a taxing hike, but just to be in the woods.
This weekend I finally tried something I have been so curious about for while now. I finally bit the bullet and went for a float! These float houses have been popping up all over the city, and claim to have numerous health benefits. After much contemplation I decided I needed to overcome whatever fear was holding me back and give it a shot! Needless to say, it was incredible.
Before I started medical school I had never really experienced anxiety. It wasn't until I had my very first panic attack just over a year ago (or what I assume was a panic attack) that I started to experience it all the time. At first I didn't realize what was wrong with me. I honestly thought I was losing my mind!
Ok, so sometimes life gets hard. It's a fact. But sometimes it gets so hard that you end up making yourself sick. At least this is what happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Hence the blogging hiatus (Sorry!).
A home without plants is no home at all in my eyes. I love how much plants can brighten up a room. It is so rewarding watching something you have cared for grow and thrive (I am sure any mothers out there would agree!!). I get so much joy in scouting out the perfect plants for my home. I can always spend way more time in a garden/plant shop than bargained for.
These past couple weeks have been a little hectic for me. This is the busiest term I have had in school so far. To top it off I recently moved the other week (not something I recommend doing when you have next to no free time!). I have definitely been pretty stressed recently.
It is times like these when it is important to ensure you are taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Today I am sharing with you 3 of my favourite health apps to help strengthen your mental wellness, making you more resilient to the negative effects of stress.
Wellllll it is probably because it isn't technically a vitamin.
What I am talking about is however the BEST mind-body medicine you will find.
I am talking aboutnature.
Anyone who has spent just a fraction of their life in nature understands there is something intuitively right about being outdoors. Your mind is clearer, the weight falls off your shoulders and you can feel perfectly at peace.
Once upon a time, before med school commenced I was fit. I did tons of yoga, biked everywhere and ran long distances for fun. I have been an athlete most of my life, and find it extremely frustrating not being in shape.
At this point in my life I straight up just don't have the time to be as active as I once did.
Time is of the essence for a lot of us. Whether you are a busy professional, a stressed out student, or an occupied parent, time isn't something most of us have a lot of!
I have to admit, the ocean really does have my heart. I grew up less than a block away from the pacific on Vancouver Island. Growing up on this rock has given me an immense appreciation for the body of water that makes up 2/3 of our planet.
My love for being in and on the water has caused me to fall in love with paddle boarding. It is the perfect combination of fun, exercise, and adventure for me. Sometimes I stand on my board and sometimes I sit!
Ever have those nights where you know you need to get to sleep, but you just can't? Your mind is racing and you are unable to shut it off no matter how hard you try. The more you think and stress about how you aren't sleeping, the longer it takes for you to get there. You stare at the clock counting down the hours you now have left to sleep, before your alarm goes off. Worst!!
In lieu of Bell's "Lets Talk" day I have some words to share.
We need to change the face of mental illness. Even the word itself makes me cringe. Maybe mental wellness is a more appropriate term for where I am going with this.
Stress, anxiety, depression etc are some of the worst things an individual can experience. What's even worse is the stigma surrounding mental health. Experiencing these can be extremely isolating and leave one feeling helpless.
