Welcome to my website! I am so glad you have found your way here.
I am a Naturopathic Doctor practicing in my hometown of beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. I grew up a block from the ocean in James Bay, and have a deep appreciation for this incredible city and the amazing people living here. I spent 8 years living in Vancouver while attending UBC and The Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, and I couldn’t wait to get back to island living where I find the nature, food, coffee and sense of community are second to none! Seriously! Isn’t this city the best?!
I love serving the world by encouraging and inspiring others to keep close to nature by embracing the outdoors and discovering the ability natural medicine has to assist our bodies in bringing them back into a state of health. I am mostly known for my deep love of exploring the trails, mountains and natural landscapes of this province, and for being slightly obsessed with all things herbal medicine (have you tried mushroom tea yet?!). I document much of my life over on my instagram account - @dr.ameliapatillo - come say hi!
When I am not busy seeing patients at my office, you can find me curled up on my couch with a good self-help book, my kitten and a cup of herbal tea (likely from Harmonic Arts!), or spending time exploring the trails of the west coast with my husband and family.
How I practice Naturopathic Medicine
I am passionate about helping you feel your best, and assisting you in bringing your body back into balance. My philosophy around health and medicine is to always search for the root cause of what is leading to an imbalance in your body, and to treat that root cause using the least invasive methods possible. In my practice this often looks like taking a full and detailed health history, looking at previous lab work and imaging, performing a short focused physical exam, and ordering any new lab work that could help us better understand what is going on for you. I then will formulate a custom treatment plan using a combination of therapies I think are best suited to you. This can include lifestyle modifications and counselling, diet and nutrition advice, herbal medicine, supplements, acupuncture, IV therapy and in some cases pharmaceuticals. It is important to me that we treat you as the individual and not just the symptoms or disease process you are presenting with. By getting to the root cause of your ailments, we are able to see longer lasting and sustainable changes to your health and wellbeing.
I strive to create a healing environment where my patients feel safe, respected and heard. This is your story and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to help you live your best one.
