These past couple weeks have been a little hectic for me. This is the busiest term I have had in school so far. To top it off I recently moved the other week (not something I recommend doing when you have next to no free time!). I have definitely been pretty stressed recently.
It is times like these when it is important to ensure you are taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Today I am sharing with you 3 of my favourite health apps that help strengthen your mental wellness, making you more resilient to the negative effects of stress. All three of these apps are free to download. Be sure to click the title of each to be linked to the apps website to learn more!
This app is great for helping you get into a calm state by helping you slow your breathing. Slowing down your breath can shift your body from a sympathetic ("fight or flight" aka stressed or anxious) to a parasympathetic response ("rest and digest" aka calm and relaxed). This app can be used anywhere. If you are feeling stressed about work/school/life try using Calm Beat for a minute or two and see how it makes you feel!
I first learned about this app during a visit with my naturopath. I was having an acupuncture treatment and one of the student clinicians put on this app with the wind-chimes and ocean sounds. Needless to say it put me right to sleep! Since discovering this app, I have used it as background noise for studying and helping me to fall asleep when I am feeling anxious. This app allows your to choose from 50 different relaxing sounds from white noise to the sounds of campfires and rivers. You can mix and match the sounds and adjust the volumes. I highly recommend using this app to help you (or your infant!) fall asleep when you are stressed.
This is BY FAR my favourite meditation app. I am a strong believer in the power of a healthy mind and healthy thoughts on overall wellbeing. This app is great as most of the meditations are only about 5 minutes long. This makes it a great app for anyone new to meditation. It contains many different guided meditations tailored to how you are feeling in the moment. I love how they focus on changing your current frame of mind to include more kindness and compassion. Meditation truly is for anyone and everyone. If you have been curious about trying meditation this is the app for you!
Have you ever used any of these apps? If so, what was your experience? Or have you tried another meditation app? Let me know in the comments below!
